SAVE THE MOUNTAIN LIONS!
There are ONLY 3 mountain lions (all in the same family) left in the entire Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area!
Preservation of the following corridor properties is critical in facilitating the movement of new mountain loins, thus insuring continued existence of mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). Mountain lions with new genetic diversity need to be able to move through the regions' mountain rages and find refuge.
The critical Central Wildlife Corridor properties include:
- The proposed Heschel School property is adjacent to Old Agoura in Los Angles County. Our goal is that this property become parkland. We advocate that another more suitable school site be chosen that is far away from the unlined Class I Calabasas Landfill. Contact Jess Thomas (818) 889-9965.
- The Minder property is beautiful rolling hills with oak trees, and is adjacent to the Calabasas Landfill. Contact Joan Kaye (818) 222-2977
- The John Perry property is located in the Old Agoura section of Agoura Hills. This significant ecological property with its many majestic oak trees provides critical habitat.
The critical Western Corridor properties include:
- Rancho Protrero/Broome Ranch: Our goal is for Rancho Potrero to become Open Space as it is now designated in state and national park plans. Contact John Finti (805) 376-6097.
- Montclef Ridge: Purchase of the last lot is necessary to save the movement corridor between the Santa Susanna Mountains and the Santa Monica Mountains. Contact Sheri Czerwinski (805) 493-5089.
